Zoolander 2

ZOOLANDER 2

Director : Ben Stiller
Year : 2016
Genre : Comedy
Rating : *

Having prevented the assassination of the Prime Minister of Malaysia with a single look, Ben Stiller's model idiot Derek Zoolander returns to the big screen in 'Zoolander 2', the completely redundant and incredibly disappointing follow-up to the highly quotable and very funny 2001 comedy satire that opened to mixed reviews upon its post-9/11 release but has gone on to become a bona fide cult classic. In a plot that barely makes any sense, 'Zoolander 2' sees the moronic Derek and one-time runway rival Hansel (Owen Wilson) called out of retirement by Penelope Cruz's Interpol agent Valentina in the wake of several 'blue steel' inspired selfie celebrity murders. Add in a nonsensical subplot about Zoolander's estranged and overweight son being the messiah of the fashion world (no, really!) and you have is a laugh-free waste of time as a truckload of pointless celebrity cameos and the shameless recycling of previous gags highlight just how dated and ironically out of style this material really is. Not even an appearance by the mighty Benedict Cumberbatch can save the day - his scene as an alien-looking transgender model proving to be the one solitary giggle in this seemingly neverending vacuum of deathly silence. In some territories, the film has been released under the title 'Zoolander No. 2'. How very apt.
