After riding the crest of a giant wave of success with 'Wild', 'Gone Girl' and 'The Good Lie', Reese Witherspoon's reputation crashes on the shore with an almighty bone-crunching clang thanks to 'Hot Pursuit', a desperately unfunny and ear-bleedingly shrill road comedy from writer/director Anne Fletcher. Taking the premise from the infinitely funnier 'Midnight Run', 'Hot Pursuit' sees Reese Witherspoon as a ditzy Southern police officer who is put in charge of the care of a lackadaisical gangsters wife (Sofia Vergara) who has become the target for hitmen and crooked cops alike. While there are a few very choice moments of tight-lipped bitchiness between the two which raises a smile or two, 'Hot Pursuit' completely fails due to a discernible lack of chemistry between Vergara and Witherspoon as well as a number of incredibly generic set pieces which do nothing to showcase both of the actresses considerable comedic talents.
