It's not good when a Christmas movie makes you actively despise the usually joyous season. Following the 'Love Actually' formula of getting a bunch of A-list actors to feature together in a bunch of intertwining plot threads all centred around a specific holiday, the utterly odious 'Christmas With The Coopers'  takes the formidable talents of multiple Academy Award winners and nominees including Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Marisa Tomei and June Squibb and makes them all look like rank amateurs.  At the centre of the drama (I use the word in its loosest possible sense), Keaton and Goodman star as a couple coming to the end of their long marriage trying to give their massive and incredibly annoying family one final perfect Christmas. Bottom of the barrel archetypes, poorly executed slapstick and  half-arsed attempts at bittersweet redemption all help to make the film the most odious viewing experience since 'Vacation' and while it tries to fill it's audience with that wonderful festive feeling, it instead leaves those who endure it with that all-too all familiar gag-inducing sensation of having eaten far too much turkey and chocolate coins.
