Wild Card

 WILD CARD

Director : Simon West
Year : 2015
Genre : Action
Rating : ***

Jason Statham is at his grumbling, gruff, cockney best in 'Wild Card', a stupid but undeniably fun action thriller from director Simon West. A remake of a 1986 Burt Reynolds vehicle which was, in turn, an cinematic adaptation of a William Goldman novel, the film focuses on a compulsive gambler turned chaperone who finds himself on the wrong side of the mob when his girlfriend is brutally beaten and raped. As always, Statham is an enigmatic and incredibly engaging presence while the villains are just as nasty and as despicable as you would expect. But what makes 'Wild Card' so entertaining are the many bone crunching fight scenes and exciting casino escapades that make up a large majority of the running time. Not to mention an extended torture scene with garden shears which is sure to make every male audience member writhe in their seats.
