My 10 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2018

MY 10 MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF 2018

Happy New Year everybody, hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season.

With 2017 now nothing more than a somewhat unpleasant memory, its time to look forward to the future - more specifically, the films due for release over the next 12 months. As I have said in previous posts, for all of it's economic, political and humanitarian horrors, 2017 was a pretty phenomenal year - well for cinephiles at least - and it is hard to comprehend that 2018 may prove to be equally as good or even better than its predecessor. Of course,  only time will tell whether this is actually the case or not but based on the schedule alone, these next 12 months are going to be very interesting, diverse and (hopefully) entertaining.

To give you an idea of what a tremendous time for cinema this year could be, here are my ten most anticipated movies due for general cinematic release in the UK over the next 12 months;

10) THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI
I have heard nothing but great things about 'In Bruges' director Martin McDonagh's latest opus and the prospect of Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson together on screen for a dark, hard-hitting comedy is almost too good to be true. The only reason it is so high on this list is that I only have 9 days to wait before I can enjoy the movie for myself.

9) LADY BIRD -
Very little has been revealed about the plot of actress Greta Gerwig's directorial debut but the amount of awards-buzz surrounding it has got me extremely interested. Also, Saiorse Ronan who stars in the film is one of the finest actresses currently working in cinema so 'Lady Bird' also has that in its favour.

8) JURASSIC WORLD : FALLEN KINGDOM -
OK, the CG-heavy trailer isn't the most convincing ever created but with J.A Bayona, the director of the best movie of 2017 at the helm, this sequel to the 2015 monster hit should at least be pretty good. Shouldn't it?

7) ISLE OF DOGS -
It has been far too long since 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' so the return of Wes Anderson is most definitely something to look forward to and with an all star cast including Hollywood heavyweights such as Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, Scarlett Johannssen and Liev Schreiber to name just a few, this quirky stop-motion comedy could be his most audacious and most unique movie to date.

6) DEADPOOL 2 -
Unlike the rest of the world, I wasn't fully enamoured with Ryan Reynolds' fast-talking merc with the mouth the first time but I must admit, the Bob Ross-style trailer for the sequel had me laughing very hard indeed so I'm hoping for the best from 'Deadpool 2'.

5) THE SHAPE OF WATER -
Every Guillermo Del Toro movie boasts sumptuous cinematography and exquisite set designs and his latest creature feature looks no different.

4) THE IRISHMAN - It's Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino working together for the first time ever. Need I say more?

3) THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE
It has taken nearly 20 years for director extraordinaire Terry Gilliam to complete his adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes popular adventure novel. Let's just hope the very, very long wait has been worth it.

2) AVENGERS : INFINITY WAR -
The culmination of a decades worth of movies, 'Infinity War' promises to end Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a truly cataclysmic note. I just hope we don't have to say goodbye to many of the team...

1) THE INCREDIBLES II -
Finally, after 14 long years of waiting, Pixar are making the sequel to one of their most respected and beloved movies. For too long, we've sat by watching pointless follow-ups and even prequels to some of our favourite animations but secretly, this is the one we have all been hoping for. Come on, 'Cars' gets two sequels but 'The Incredibles' gets nothing? Someone on Pixar's executive board royally messed up there. However, with the release of an adorable teaser trailer, our hopes and dreams are finally coming true and whether it be due to nostalgia or the decade and a half's worth of anticipation, 'The Incredibles II' is absolutely my most eagerly awaited film of the year.

And there you have it, the motion pictures I am most looking forward to watching in 2018. Will some disappoint? Probably. Will some utterly ruin the legacy of their originals? Almost definitely. Will 'Fifty Shades Freed' make me want to rip my eyeballs out and soak them in bleach? Without a doubt. But for all the bad and good coming down the pipeline, I can't wait to see what surprises 2018 has in store for us. Let's do this....
