Cars 3

CARS 3

Director : Brian Fee
Year : 2017
Genre : Animation
Rating : **1/2

Despite its massive financial success, I've never been able to wrap my head around the continuing popularity of Pixar's mediocre automotive franchise 'Cars' and while this second sequel may very well be the best entry in the series so far, it still pales in comparison to the majority of the studio's far greater works - thus cementing my confusion. In a plot almost identical to that of the original 2005 movie, 'Cars 3' once again sees a now older Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) training in order to defeat Jackson Storm (Arnie Hammer), a younger, tech-heavy vehicle who has usurped his racing crown. As is typical with any Pixar production, the CGI animation is beautiful to look at and the voice acting for the most part is pretty good, most notably that of series newcomer Christela Alonzo who manages to inject a great deal of emotion and passion into her role of Cruz Ramirez, McQueen's hard-working motivator who herself dreams of becoming a world-class racer. However despite it's technical expertise and a plot that is sure to appeal to it's target audience of sugar-filled kids, the film is a rather pointless and dull one and in the wake of other far superior animated releases such as 'Captain Underpants : The First Epic Movie', 'Kubo & The Two Strings' and Pixar's own 'Inside Out', 'Cars 3' is left drifting blindly in the dust. Clearly this is one franchise that should be sent to the scrapyard.
