Sleepless

SLEEPLESS

Director : Baran bo Odar
Year : 2017
Genre : Thriller
Rating : *1/2

An utterly needless remake of Frederic Jardin's  2011 French hit 'Nuit Blanche', 'Sleepless' is a painfully conventional and astonishingly forgettable action thriller that serves as yet another example of a foreign language rehash that manages to ruin the legacy of a far superior predecessor. In a plot that plays less like the original film and more like a clumsy amalgamation of 'Taken' and 'Man On Fire', the usually charismatic Jamie Foxx is a total bore starring as Vincent Downs, a crooked Las Vegas cop who must delve deep into the city's dangerous criminal underworld to rescue his teenage son from a crazed gangster from whom he stole a sizeable amount of powdered cocaine (Scoot McNairy). Director Baran bo Odar has proved to be a great critical success in his native Sweden but his first English language feature is a wholly underwhelming affair, riddled with clichéd dialogue, laughably ridiculous narrative twists and overly cartoonish archetypes. Despite it's title, you are sure to nod off in your cinema seat while watching 'Sleepless', a thriller that overwhelmingly lacks any thrills whatsoever.
