Bad Santa 2

BAD SANTA 2

Director : Mark Waters
Year : 2016
Genre : Comedy
Rating : *

Following in the miserable footsteps trod earlier this year by 'Zoolander 2', Bad Santa 2' is yet another comedy sequel that disastrously fails to live up to it's far better predecessor - lowering the emotional levels and upping the vulgarity and profanity to frankly cosmological heights. In this follow-up to Terry Swigoff's dirty yet surprisingly charming 2003 black comedy, Billy Bob Thornton once again steps into the urine soaked shoes of full-time drunk and part-time Father Christmas Willie who, with the help of his former partner in crime and one-time attempted murderer Marcus (Tony Cox) and equally disgusting mother (played by Academy Award winner Kathy Bates), concocts a plot to rob a Chicago-based children's charity during the festive season. While the first film had a beating heart buried somewhere beneath the vomit and vodka stained Santa suit, 'Bad Santa 2' instead replaces anything resembling emotion or depth with tired gags, disgustingly nauseating sex scenes and dialogue that somehow crawled straight out of a particularly execrable sewerage system. There's even a return by Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), the now 21 year old 'friend' of Willie's who was lovably dumb in the first film but has now become one of the most instantly annoying characters seen on any screen this year.  Unspeakably vile, unnecessarily cruel and beyond misogynistic, 'Bad Santa 2' is just about as deplorable as cinema gets - ironically, a most perfectly appropriate way to end a year as wholly terrible as 2016!
