Who better to have to have on an airplane when terrorists threaten death and destruction than the one man killing machine that is Liam Neeson? Yes, the Irish one man army is back in Jaume Collet - Serra's latest action thriller 'Non - Stop', a film that may lack character or any sense of discernible identity but makes up for it with a heaping helping amount of explosions, gun fights and Liam doing what he does best; beating the living hell out of bad guys.

Co - starring Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery and '12 Years A Slave's Lupita Nyong'o, the film tells the story of an air marshal played by Neeson who while on a cross Atlantic flight, is plagued by text messages sent from an unknown passenger who threatens to kill a person on the craft every 20 minutes if $150m is not transferred into a bank account.

I am always up for a good thriller set in the clouds. From 'Con Air' to 'United 93', 'Flightplan' to even 'Snakes On A Plane', aviation has given the cinema some it's most tense and nail biting sequences and while 'Non - Stop' cannot profess to be as well choreographed as many of it's contemporaries, Jaume Collet - Serra still manages to capture the sense of claustrophobia and utter helplessness felt when you are 35,000 feet above the Earth. Of course as is the case with any mystery thriller, we have to go through the dull conventions of the protagonist accusing everyone, including the obviously benevolent and in turn causing them to counter accuse them but thankfully these moments don't last for too long and Collet - Serra quickly gets back to the well executed violence and adrenaline fueled action that we came to see. Completely forgettable but at the same time completely fun, 'Non - Stop' serves as a perfect antidote to the post Winter blues and works well as filler between the long winded awards season and the Summer blockbuster months.
