'The Devil Inside' is yet another found footage horror movie, which seems to be the only way horror movies can be made these days. 'Cloverfield' has a lot to answer for because since that 2008 film, a slew of found footage movies have been made. 'The Devil Inside' seems to be jumping on the bandwagon of movies such as 'The Last Exorcism', 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Diary Of The Dead', but it is a lot better than most found footage movies than most.

The movie tells the story of Marie Rossi, who murdered 3 people whilst she was being exorcised. She is taken to the Vatican, where she is held in an insane asylum. 25 years later, her daughter is determined to see her mother whilst simultaneously making a movie about insanity. However, her mother is still possessed and throughout the movie, we see multiple attempts to exorcise the demon or demons out of her. Unusually for a modern horror movie, the acting is really good, especially from Fernanda Andrade who plays Isabella  Marias daughter, Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth, who play the rogue priests practised in the art of exorcism and Ionat Grama who plays the documentary cameraman who takes the full brunt of the crews frustrations. Unlike like most horror movies released nowadays, I really cared about every character and their perils felt really palpable to me.

The film has taken a hit critically and I'm not exactly sure why, but one of the reasons maybe the awfulness of the ending, which is up there with 'The Last Exorcism' as one of the worst I have ever seen. The reason is because I cared about the outcome of the movie and to end with a website to visit so you can see how the story ended really annoyed me. If the film had a different, I think that critics wouldn't have taken against it so much, but due to poor judgement in the post production stage of development, box office and critical reception plummeted. This is a shame, but everything up to the climax had been fun, interesting and engaging. It is one of the better exorcism films out there. If you want a fun night with a few scares, good laughs and an interesting story, check out 'The Devil Inside'. You may be surprised.
