Marvel's lucrative 'Infinity Saga' finally reaches its astonishing finale with the aptly named 'Avengers : Endgame', a hugely impressive action fantasia that closes the series in the most satisfying way imaginable, successfully bringing together the numerous individual story and character arcs that been established over the past decade of franchise filmmaking to a deeply fulfilling and emotionally rich conclusion. Once again directed by the Russo Brothers and featuring a cast of dozens of the biggest names in cinema today, the film sees our now diminished group of heroes attempting to correct the immense damage caused by the megalomaniacal Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his dreaded gauntlet as seen in 'Avengers : Infinity War'.

As is to be expected, the action scenes are truly incredible and the Russo's pulls out all the stops to make sure that 'Avengers : Endgame' contains the most dazzling and awe-inspiring of them all - many of which are sure to go down in the annals of movie history. There is not one character who isn't given at least one moment to shine in battle and these scenes are sure to illicit big cheers from audiences of all ages.  However, while indeed spectacular, the action wouldn't be half as effective without the intimate character development and terrific performances which have continued to improve and impress over the course of the series and it is this continuing prioritization of sentiment over spectacle that makes the MCU and especially this movie so exceptional. From it's shockingly bleak pre-title sequence to it's suitably sombre end credits, 'Endgame' is loaded with both heart and humour, a majority of which is provided by series stalwart Robert Downey Jr. who is deserving of serious awards consideration for his enthralling portrayal of the increasingly fatigued Tony Stark. Other highlights among the unbelievable cast include Karen Gillan's conflicted Nebula, Mark Ruffalo's contented Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner's damaged Clint Barton and Chris Hemsworth's Thor whose unexpected story arc forms the formidable comedic vetebrae of the entire picture.

An intelligent script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, a rousing score by Alan Silvestri, unanimously great performances and masterful direction all add up to a deeply cathartic viewing experience that ends this decade long saga in the most enjoyable, most heartfelt, most surprising and most exhilarating way possible, closing the book on one chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and simultaneously writing the prologue to the next. It is funny, it is thrilling, it is at times genuinely heartbreaking and it is, for it's full 3 hour long running time, one of the most satisfying viewing experiences to be had in this or any decade. I say with zero hyperbole that in terms of visual splendour, fan service and effortlessly exceeding audience expectations,  'Avengers : Endgame' is one of, if not the greatest superhero movie ever made and is absolutely deserving of it's critical praise and record-breaking success. The story of the MCU may not be over just yet but on behalf of the billions of people who have stuck by this franchise for the past 11 years, thank you Marvel, thank you Kevin Feige and of course, thank you to the late, great Stan Lee for making this all possible. Excelsior!
