Storks

STORKS

Directors : Nicholas Stiller and Doug Sweetland
Year : 2016
Genre : Animation
Rating : **

This brightly coloured animation from the same creative team behind 2013's wonderful 'The LEGO Movie' may be entertaining enough for it's intended younger audience but fails to reach either the comedic or inventive heights of its far superior predecessor. Junior (Andy Samberg) is the up and coming star of the stork-run online shopping service Cornerstone.com - the birds having long retired their traditional and apparently dangerous baby-delivering vocation. However, when a child is inadvertently created by Tulip (Katie Crown), an undelivered orphan and the only human on the aptly named Stork Mountain, Junior and the well-meaning but clumsy Tulip must covertly deliver the infant to it's family without the big boss (Kelsey Grammer) finding out. It's a silly premise and to its credit, 'Storks' really does make the most of the many daft scenarios which arise throughout it's nifty 90 minute running time - with a hilariously enterprising pack of wide-eyed wolves proving to be a particularly memorable highlight. But for all of its ridiculous sight gags and continuous conveyor belt of avain-themed puns, 'Storks' doesn't really provide much in the way of laughs for those over the age of 10. It's characters are fairly bland, the animation, while accomplished, is indistinguishable from any Saturday morning cartoon and the story isn't engaging enough to warrant a theatrical release. Little kids will love it. Adults will wish they were watching 'The Magnificent Seven' playing next door instead.
